My dad’s car has ABS, but I still locked up here. It was closer than anything I’ve experienced before. And the worst part? She made a U-turn at the next intersection, sending her in the direction she was supposed to go in the first place.

Sounds like your dad’s ABS needs to get checked.

And she sucks

Eh, it was only a brief moment of skidding before the car caught up to itself.

Also, I could be wrong about it even having that in the first place... I’m just assuming things. :P

When people talk about experience being the key to becoming a good driver, that’s the kind of thing they mean. Until you’ve actually seen someone do something that idiotic, you just won’t believe they will. Eventually, after a few years of people pulling stunts like that in front of you wherever you go, you start almost expecting it: see a side turning, you slow and get ready for the idiot to doff their cloak of invisibility and pull out.

They need to install mechanical hands in cars that smack drivers upside the head when they blatantly ignore road signs and nearly cause accidents.

i had a code brown driving with my cousin the other day. A skeleton lady, most likely personal friends with George Washington, decided to pull out into traffic at our side door. Didn;t even look.

Yup, everytime I see somebody “nudging” forward to make a turn like that, I take my foot off the accelerator and just hover it over the brake pedal until I’m clear. That’s saved my ass at least 3 times from incompetent fucks that shouldn’t have a license.

Haha so many mistakes. Why didn’t she use the ramp? Did she not see you? Did she think you would stop, or maybe that she could speed up in time? Bonus points for no signal (although you wouldn’t be able to see it anyway).

The only think that could have made it worse was if you were in the left lane and the person slowly turned into that one. As far as I’m concerned, that maneuver should be a capital offence.

There is still some tire noise with ABS. Is that what you were hearing, or was it a full-on lockup?

When I was learning how to drive my mom used to tell me to take my foot off the gas going through green lights.

I was like WTH no way am I taking my foot off the gas

Little did I know she was trying to make sure I wasn’t going to get screwed by a random guy turning right on red when they shouldn’t have or something.

Short circuit way is to watch dashcam videos all the time. Gives you a much better idea of common mistakes. Also an idea of just how long it takes to lose momentum once your tires give up their grip. Astonishing how much kinetic energy they manage, and how much destruction it wreaks when they stop managing it.

Everytime I’m driving towards a red light and it turns green, I’ve learned to also take my foot off the gas and always look left and right before I actually go through the intersection.

I’ve seen too many idiots that can’t wait an extra minute or two and blow way past their yellow/red light.

Stop using cameras for 3D autonomous safety crap, use them for observing and slapping the driver! :D

2009 Kia Spectra. It’s probably too basic to have that, but for some reason I can’t stop assuming they’re standard on all new-ish cars.

It left some skids, but they were only 5-10 feet long with fade on both ends.

No learning is a bad thing, but I don’t think watching dashcam videos quite compares to being there yourself: it’s about learning to expect the unexpected.

That’s not in Utah is it? I’ve almost died thrice driving through Utah because of this kind of stupidity. The worst was a tow truck parked on the right shoulder of I-15 southbound, who all of a sudden decided he need to do a slow u-turn, across 3 lanes of traffic, across a median, into the left lane of oncoming traffic going northbound. Doing a comfortable 80ish in the left lane in a full size van, we had to slam on the brakes and swerve right to avoid him..
